Although
Abdurahman M. Sherif specialized in watercolor and silk screen, which formed
the foundation of his artistic identity, he has recently begun to use acrylic
in his paintings.
This
painting is titled “Central Market,” and it shows some features of
modern art. It also has an impressionist touch to its subject. Because of its
color structure and freedom, it is associated with a modern style. Furthermore,
the depiction of human figures in the painting is associated with the unity
that existed between realism and expressionism. Likewise, the umbrellas that
are depicted standing out in different sizes in the picture have their own
place, but they have created unity in the composition. He occasionally makes
use of the frottage graphic art technique to accomplish this artistic technique.
The
human figures depicted as a central figure in the painting’s foreground create
a sense of perspective with the objects lying on a blue surface that are
represented in a distorted pictorial manner.
The
color scheme of this painting evokes the typically vibrant ambiance of Mercato
while also attempting to convey the inner thoughts and emotions of the
participants in this social gathering. Abdurahman Sherif, a painter and graphic
artist, demonstrates observation as his primary artistic trait in this piece.
Although
Abdurahman paints a variety of subjects, his paintings of the architecture of
Harar, the city where his parents were born, are his best-known works. We can
see how the traditional clothing of the Harari ethnic group has influenced this
painting.
Additionally,
based on the style of this painting and what has been clearly seen in other
works by him, he has switched to a new artistic style. He previously painted
the human figure in a realistic manner; therefore, it appears that his current
work represents a movement from abstract to semi-abstract representations.
